Led by Rachel Demuth, their teachers are experienced chefs, their kitchen is spacious and inviting, and their location is perfectly situated in central Bath. Come eager to learn. Leave inspired.
Demuths Cookery School is run by one of the UK’s leading vegetarian chefs Rachel Demuth, who owned award winning Demuths Restaurant for 26 years. She is joined by a team of experienced chef tutors who teach an exciting and varied selection of vegetarian and vegan courses for all abilities from beginner to accomplished cook.
Rachel Demuth started teaching people to cook in her own kitchen in response to customers at her award winning Demuths Restaurant asking, “How can I learn to cook this?”
The school’s reputation for exciting and inspiring teaching grew and it became obvious that it had to move.
Rachel designed her ideal teaching kitchen and converted a beautiful Georgian building into Demuths Cookery School. Demuths Cookery School is based in the centre of Bath in a wonderful Georgian building, with a modern purpose built kitchen, light and airy and with stunning views of Bath Abbey and Parade Gardens.
Demuths runs a range of classes and longer course with intense learning on the Vegetarian and Vegan Diplomas, weekend day classes and evening workshops for locals and tourists.
Popular courses include Fast and Delicious, Southern Indian Thali, Thai and Vietnamese, Middle Eastern, Spanish and Italian. In addition to their wide range of vegetarian classes, they offer vegan classes, gluten free and raw. Students come from as far afield as the Lebanon and USA for our Diploma courses and currently they are the only school in the UK currently offering a Vegan Diploma.
Courses focus on encouraging students to be confident with techniques, knife skills, using spices and herbs and increasing their knowledge of vegetarian and vegan cookery. All courses are full of nutritional and technical tips and the school prides itself on making plant-based cookery accessible to all. Around half of the school’s students are non-vegetarians who are interested in reducing their intake of meat and fish and exploring how exciting cooking with vegetables can be. They source vegetables locally and many are grown organically on the hills overlooking Bath.
Bath is a fantastic city for a weekend break, take part in a cookery course, visit the Roman Baths, soak in open air Thermae spa pool and shop in independent shops. In the run up to Christmas there is the famous Christmas market.
The cookery courses are non-residential, but there is lots of choice for accommodation in Bath which they can advise on. The school is situated right in the centre of the beautiful heritage city of Bath, just 5 minutes walk from the train station
Bath has over 350 restaurants to choose from and a couple of excellent vegetarian restaurants close by to the cookery school.
